Governance Info Session

Save the Date! Information Session on establishing a community process for Kwantlen governance dialogue/code development work.

Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  Dinner to be served at 5:00 p.m.  Meeting to begin at 6:00 pm.  At Kwantlen Cultural Centre, Kwantlen IR 6, McMillan Island.

On behalf of the Kwantlen Chief and Council, and further to earlier correspondence sent to our membership dated March 14, 2019, we are offering a community information session at the Kwantlen Cultural Centre hosted by representatives from DGW Law on Tuesday April 30, 2019 from 5 pm to 8 pm (Dinner 5-6; meeting 6-8) to share information and begin a dialogue with our Kwantlen membership about developing a community based process on governance dialogue/code development work for Kwantlen First Nation.

We are working to have this information session accessible via a webinar/livestream to those members unable to attend in person, and will provide log in details in separate correspondence.  We also will share information stemming from this session with members that they can access on-line or request paper copies of, as they may prefer.

As expressed in previous correspondence to members, it is Council’s intention to support a consultation and engagement process with members on this important topic that ensures that all community voices are a part of the process as it develops and proceeds, and that all members can contribute their ideas and input in a meaningful and respectful way.  We further envision a process that can glean each member’s input and voice through a variety of means as this process begins and unfolds.

Council encourages respectful dialogue as our community process develops, and acknowledges there are many views and perspectives of our members relative to the important topic of future Kwantlen governance.  We should all be encouraged to be respectful, listen, consider points of view carefully and create a safe place for healthy dialogue going forward on this topic, including when hearing a position in stark contrast with our own.  We owe this to our next generations.

We encourage all members to attend this important first session.  We will provide details on further engagements/next steps with membership on this topic stemming from this session as soon as they are determined.
